I can't say that I've ever seen or heard of a bad one... but you might try this...
Tape the shifter button down and try feeling for the positions...
The third one back is drive, or if the cable is not adjusted right... try pulling it all the way back and ... move it forward two clicks to drive (these clicks are comming from the other end of the cable and actually the trans. itself). Once you find the drive position...take for a drive...
Then, if there are still shifting problems... they can't be due to the shifting cable... its a fluid level or supply problem (clogged filter)
If you still need a cable (And I don't know where Ocala is...)
I have one that I will guarantee to be satisfactory for $7.00 USD (PAYPAL works nicely) plus whatever the cost of shipping it to you would be.

Well Ocala is in Florida, a machanic said i needed one cuz the cable is next to the throttle right...but u cant pull on the wire...only the engine can when it shifts into gears and stuff like that. the cable is under the throttle cable and leads to the tranny. but ya i need one. if you would really sell it to me, i can give u my address and i got paypal and stuff -ryan

The shifter cable goes to the shifter... So, I guess you are talking about the kick down cable...It attaches to the throttle body, similarly to the throttle cable...only from the opposite direction to allow the kick down cable to be "pulled" when the the throttle is fully depressed...
If this cable were unhooked or missing then the transmision would not shift down EVERY time you depress the gas pedal... though it would still operate fairly normal...
I have a 16v kick down cable, but its not for sale... but I will compare it to some 8v cables I have, that I could part with...

The cables are different between the two... the 16v is straight (and possibly longer) and the 8v curves around on the end ... same as the throttle cable...
Good luck finding one, and they don't look too easy to install on the trans end.
