Hey folks, I have a 95 Sidekick 4 Dr. Suddenly, the fuel gauge will not lift from the ignition off position. I can't tell how much fuel I have. . Any ideas!!! Thanks in advance for your help, Todd in Newmarket, Ontario.

The top of the fuel tank, I bet, is full of rust, and the gauge wire's corrosion made it snap. Or, the wiring that's behind the left rear signal light is starting to brake appart.
Look there first...

Not to dig up a REALLY old post, but when I got married, I rushed home before the ceremony and got caught short of fuel for the first time ever in my 1991 Sidekick. I knew I was low on fuel, but it was still registering 1/4 tank....I ran clean out. After I got 5 gallons in (thanks to a lawn service company with a jerry can) I realized the gauge was incorrect even after filling full. Found a bad read to ground at the tank via tracing cable (after honeymoon) in the rear of the vehicle where the tail light caused abrasion. fixed wiring and did not have a single problem after that.
