I think these things almost get better milage in the city, driving at normal highway speeds with such high revs definatly kills the milage, Keeping the revs under 3500 seems to give me pretty good milage.

At 90 km/hour, the motor on my 95 Sidekick is at 2,500 rpm. I have an automatic transmission with overdrive. Is this normal? When I drive my sister in law's 2006 Elantra, the rpm is at 3000 when I travel at that same speed.
At idle, the motor's rpm is around 800.....but I didn't check very carefully....will do that next time i'm behind the wheel.

96 JLX SPORT, 1.8 litre
300,000 km.
Just finsihed 6000 mile roadtrip without a twitch. 600 kilometers to the tank!!! Absolutely love it....... -35c or plus 35c it gets me there!!! Not real keen on the fan/ waterpump drive setup but least it doesn't give me problems.
