Heres the story of my old 4-door 1991 Sidekick JLX. My parents bought this car from a dealership for $3000, my family had just bought a new house (therefore didn’t have a lot of money) and my dad wanted a car that was good on gas and didn’t need a lot of repairs. The car had rust beginning to spread in a few areas but my dad didn’t really care because he didn’t plan on keeping it for very long anyways. My parents owned the car for a year and never made a repair on it and gave the car oil changes, but that’s about it. My older sister then turned 16 and the car was passed down to her. She drove the car for 2 years and also didn’t replace anything on it but the brake pads. She put this car into the ditch twice but both times no damage was done. By this time half of the doors were rust and a lot of different areas were rusted threw on the car (it was a mess). My sister didn’t give the car an oil change for the whole 2 years, ya that’s right 2 years with no oil change. She never planned on the car lasting that long anyways and didn’t want to pay for oil changes so she never did. She went and bought a brand new 2003 Toyota Corolla and the Suzuki was then passed down to me. At first I hated this car it was slow, it was automatic and I didn’t plan on keeping it for long. After awhile I started liking the car and me and friends started offroading in it. After the first time we went offroading that was it from then on. We made it a regular routine to go threw this farmers field that always had water in it and we would come back out and wash the car and go home and we did this everyday. Then we started offroading on weekends and evening, basically whenever we could. We could never get the hubs to lock so we always were offroading with out 4-wheel drive, which was also the crazy thing. I had no idea till recently how we could do that but I found out that the tires that it had were Bridgestone Desert Duelers, which apparently are very good tires. I gave this thing around like there was no tomorrow I topped it off everyday and one time drove for about an hour at 160km/hr on my way home from Mississauga. The only problems I had with this car were when a friend and me were installing a deck in my car we fucked up the wires and I had no lights in my car at all. The other problems were just stuff that broke from offroading like my muffler cracked and my catalytic converter broke. Anyways one day I was driving going about 120km/hr and my steering column broke and I couldn’t steer the car and my car went right threw a hydro pole and rolled 3 times. The damage to the car was a broken windshield and a dent on the roof from a huge rock that it hit that was about 4 by 4feet in size and the back of the car was damaged bad from hitting the ground when it flipped. The car had never been oil sprayed its whole life and the steering lines and everything were so rusted that this was the result. I walked away from the crash without a scratch on me. My head hit the ground and I didn’t even know till I got out of the car and felt the grass and dirt on my face and relaxed what happened. So I live down the street from a Mennonite and he pulled the car out of the ditch and stored it in his field for me. My car still started perfectly and everything the only this wrong was the steering, so if it wasn’t for that it would still be alive today. I’m not sure about the exact number of kilometers it had, I wish I know exactly but it was around 419,000kms. So that the story of my old Suzuki Sidekick, I now own a 1992 that had quite a bit of rust on it but im doing some body work on it and repainting it. I oil sprayed it the last 2 years I’ve owned it and now I have money to fix the body. It has 240,000kms on it and if my old Suzuki has told me anything its that this one isn’t going to die anytime soon. This one also hasn’t been abused as much as the old one either and has actually got oil changes lol. I don’t think I will ever get any car besides a Suzuki for the rest of my life after the quality I have seen out of the 2 that ive owned.
