Just make sure its oilsprayed right away and always sprayed every year. If you dont it will rust away like crazy as long as you do that and give it the oil changes it needs you should be fine. I recommend getting a Haynes manual for it because it tells you when to make the proper fluid changes and such, good luck

Barbie, Welcome to the Group. Trackers /Sidekicks were offered in a Pinkish-Rose color and sometimes referred to as “Barbie Cars” Is that your color ? It goes with Blonde Hair.
The only drawback I can even think of, with the 89 and 90 models, is that they use some major different parts within the fuel injection system, a very Different Wiring system, and a totally different dash, from the later, more plentiful year models. Making parts, new or used, potentially harder to find. Most everything else on the Sidekick is the same as used all years, through 95 (within 2 door models).
Things are good, though, because, little is likely to go wrong with this stuff anyway.
I’d like to know if your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) starts with a “J “or a “2”
I’m gathering information on the few Japanese built Trackers /Sidekicks built in 89 and 90
Thanks in advance, Good luck with the purchase … I think It will always get you there safe, just don’t go too fast.

sheddy, yours is Japanese built ... As an example of the differences from the "2" like mine, The speedometer cluster is completely different (only the bulbs will interchange with my 90) Still, they accept the same Main Plugs of the dash wiring harness. I wonder about the other differences ...

Hey Barbiebullet (what an alias!)
Yup, good advice about reading past posts. Maybe not the best bedtime reading, but anyways. Same goes for the Haynes manual.
If you can find a trustworthy mechanic that is particularly familiar with the Sidekick, that's the cherry on the cake. I personally find it pretty useful to be able to rely on a "last hope" resource.
Cheers (from the other side of the country)
